Our Home must be our Castle

We must know we are safe in our own homes

I went online a few weeks ago to search for information on a home invasion that had just taken place in Sydney where an elderly couple, 86 year old Colin Saliba and his 84 year old wife Josephine, were found by police with serious head injuries after a home invasion by two men.

Mr Saliba was attacked when he tried to defend his wife from being beaten. They were both taken to hospital and Mr Saliba has since died leaving his wife in a serious condition.

They have been married for more than 60 years and lived in the same house for more than 30 years.

When I went online expecting to find right away the details of Mr and Mrs Saliba I instead was bombarded by dozens of home invasion incidents from only a few previous months.  Over the last decade there must be hundreds of home invasions involving murders, rapes, robberies and bashings.  Each on of these atrocities leaves the families of the victims in tatters.

When are our politicians going to find the guts to enact some serious penalties for entering a persons home uninvited.

I see no reason why home invasions should not receive the same penalties as that for murder.  The different degrees of home invasions can have different penalties but lets kick it off the same as murder and go up from there.

Our homes are supposed to be our castles and these cowardly scum need to know that if they cross the line uninvited then they will suffer the consequences.

Come on politicians, find some intestinal fortitude and represent the decent law abiding citizens who allow you the privilege of representing them.
